My flowers have no clue it is November 28th! And the Wonderful West Virginia Mountains

It is November 28th and unseasonable warm for West Virginia. By this time of the year there isn't usually a flower in sight! I haven't even gotten out my winter coat yet! I just can't believe what it still blooming... Take a look!!

This is a new coneflower I planted from seed this summer, I planted them late never thinking they would bloom until next year. But here it is going crazy...

Of course all of my ornamental cabbages are doing great, they love the cold. But as you can see the sun was shinning today when I took the pictures. It will be almost 60 tomorrow, when Tom will be putting up Xmas lights!

I love the color the cabbage and Kales give your yard in the winter. Especially right by the front door...

Than there was the wonderful hunting trip for my husband. He took my camera, that is why I didn't post this week. I couldn't take any pictures! He didn't shoot a deer but at least he got to bring home enough deer meat to make some deer Jerky one of the guys gave him! I told him he had to come home with enough for my Jerky I love it!!!

He even took a picture of a Tombstone on Shavers Mountain. This is who the mountain was named after Peter Shaver. I love the Tombstone " Killed By Indians 1781".

It finally snowed late in the week. They had T-Shirts on earlier in the week, all they wanted was some snow!!! This was at deer camp.

It is worth it each year if he just sees one Bald Eagle!!! and he DID!!!

This is the North Fork of the South Branch of the Potomac River...(did you get all of that!!! LOL) Just down stream from Seneca Rocks... It would have been prettier with snow!

Beautiful Weekend Trip with Friends!

We went away this weekend and it was the best!!! It is always fun to getaway with a bunch of friends. We went to the mountains to a great little Inn. As soon as we all got checked in we decided to drive up the mountain to a ski resort. Our friends Paulette and Dave decided to ride the bike since the weather was so beautiful, unseasonably warm for November almost 70 on Saturday afternoon... and in the mountains that is really crazy warm! I haven't been on a bike in 28 years when we were kids and had our bike. So I ask Paulette if I could go with Dave??? She said sure and dressed me in all her leathers to keep me warm and away I went...
They made my weekend!

You can't tell I'm excited... Can You!!!

What a beautiful bike, Nothing like a Harley!!! Riding up that mountain with all the curves brought back many a memory!!! I had a great time...

Can you believe November 15 and 65 degrees... A perfect weekend to take a trip...

This is the owner of the Brazen Head Inn, Will on Bass. We really enjoyed hearing all his stories Will and Jill told us about the Inn & listening to the music all evening..

It was an evening of playing dominoes with great friends.... Mexican Train Dominoes... Wonder who's winning....

Jill is on fiddle, her and her husband Will own this wonderful Inn.. They jammed all evening, while we were there. We all sang along to the tunes we knew. Such a wonderful place to just kick back and have a great time!!! I can't wait to go back!

Getting back into Knitting!!!

A few weeks ago I went on a school field trip and one of the teachers took her knitting to work on in the bus. She was knitting a beautiful scarf, I don't think I have knitted since my kids were young. Not to say I know much about knitting. I can cast on and knit or pearl and cast off. Not much more than that!!! So scarf making is right up my alley! LOL So I went out and got some new needles and some yarn. I had forgotten how relaxing knitting really is! This is the one I made for me, really fuzzy and warm. I wore it to school on Thursday. If you look really close at the yarn you can see the little extra piece of string wrapped around each piece of yarn. Yarn has really changed since I knitted last!!! Both scarfs that I made were multi colored and it made it's own stripes without even changing yarn... I loved it... This one I made for my mother for Christmas (nobody tell her!!!) All her favorite colors wrapped up into one big scarf. It should keep her warm!!!This yarn was all rippled and bumpy so it made a really great scarf. I just love these new yarns. Of course they probably aren't really new to all you knitters but they are new to me!!!

I am having a good time knitting, but I can't seem to get much else done, especially the chair I am suppose to be reupholstering for my daughter before the end of the month!!! But I will get it done! I PROMISE!!! (I know she will read this)... LOL

I want to get a few more done for gifts for Christmas I just hope I have time.

Arts & Humanities 25 th Anniversary Celebration

The Marion County Arts & Humanities had their 25th Anniversary Celebration on Sunday afternoon. I was pleased to be invited as a past recipient. I received my award in 2000 as Artist of the year. I was so thrilled that year when they called me to let me know... Each year they give out awards for Art, Music, History, Drama,Teacher,Outstanding Students & a special Marian Satterfield Award. Here I am with a special friend John Fallon, who won his award in 1990 for Drama. He has preformed in so many plays over the years I have lost count. He is wonderful!!! From 1990-1997 we were both in the play Pickett's Fort An American Frontier Musical. It was preformed in an outdoor theater each summer for 2 weeks. My youngest played his daughter for a couple of years until she got to big for him to carry her on stage and my oldest was in the chorus. Those were memorable times. My mother thinks he is THE BEST!!!

While at the Celebration they had a duo called "Bridging The Gap". Here is what it said in our program:

"Bridging the Gap" duo Peter Wilson (click on the link to check out Peter playing)and Aaron Clay. This word famous duo was honored in the 2004 ceremony with the Music Award in recognition of their "outstanding leadership and devotion to the enhancement of the arts". Hailed by the Washington Post for "Superior arrangements and uncommon musicianship" the unique duo perform work covering the wide range of musical styles in venues from private homes and schools to concert halls and stadiums. Wilson and Clay are members of the President's Band and perform throughout the world. They have become frequent guests of the Millennium Stage at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts...

What a wonderful surprise to see them preform on Sunday. In 2004 when I was invited to the White house for Dinner, as an artist, they were playing. But at that time I had no idea one was from Fairmont (my home town) and the other 20 miles away in Morgantown WV.

To say the least I had a great day, I enjoyed seeing old friends and wonderful music and great food!!!

Halloween at School today!!!

I had more fun than I should have had today!!! But it is almost Halloween and at school it was Halloween. Besides I think I look great in "Pink" Although Spiders aren't my favorite, they are ok as long as they aren't real... The kids had a ball teasing me about my spider and pink hair!!! Sometimes it is just fun to act like a kid again... And to say the least I DID HAVE FUN TODAY!!!

My Halloween Pumpkin.... LOL

You all know I love my dogs, I found this pumpkin pattern the other day on BHG and knew I just had to do it!!! I am not great at pumpkin carving but it does look like a chihuahua







Of course my family thinks I'm crazy. But we all have to be a little crazy once in a while... Have a great Halloween...

All Things "LIVING" in my House, Other than Plants

There is nothing better than the unconditional love of a pet (or two or three...) Our dog Mia we have had since 2000. She is our second Sheltie, I always had cats until our first Sheltie showed up at the door one night and never left. I had collies as a child but they were always outside pets. This was our first inside dog. Now I know I will never be without a dog again. They are wonderful companions, always happy to see you when you walk in the door, even if you have just been outside for an hour.
They are my computer buddies, Mia the Sheltie and Claudia the Chihuahua chilling under the desk as I type away the hours..
When my youngest daughter moved home after living at the beach for four years she brought back two Chihuahuas, she lived at home with them for two years and when she moved out again my husband had fallen in love with them and told her to just leave them both here with us. So we now have three dogs. She now has a Mastiff and a Chihuahua we got her this spring. Surprisingly they get along great!
Claudia is just the most loving dog I have ever met, she jumps up on the back of the compute chair and sleeps nice and warm between my back and the back of the chair. She is at least 13 years old now, and the most active of all three of them. Running and playing all day...Here is Keegan the 5 year old in front with Claudia resting her head on his back, basting in the sunny bay window. This is their favorite spot in the morning sun.

These little dogs love to be all covered up in a blanket or under the blankets at night in bed with us.

He is differently a woman's dog, he is my buddy for sure...

Mia, nice and cozy on the floor, No blankets for her. She get too warm with all that hair. The only time she is in bed or on the couch with us is if it is storming... She just shakes in the stormy weather. She has had such a good time playing with the other two little ones, she needed a buddy or two to play with...

Than there is the turtle that is probably 10 years old, another leftover of the youngest daughter. I think he will live forever!!! LOL if you are in Toms office he bangs on the tank to let you know he is there!!!
We call this our pet rock, a couple of years ago I got my husband a salt water tank for Christmas. Well I found out you had to put a live rock in the tank. I had no idea what I was doing, but that youngest daughter Amanda was the expert... So my mother bought Tom this rock for his Christmas Present. Mom is 83 and goes to the Spa to exercise three times a week, when she told her friends she bought her son-in-law a rock for Xmas they all got a kick out of it. Little did they know it was a $70.00 rock!!! BUT IT IS ALIVE!!!

Here are a few other living things in that tank... The star fish is so interesting all those millions of little suction cups that allow him to climb up the glass are really cool...

He is on the move up the rock now.. I loved to watch him...

I could just sit and watch everything moving in the tank all day, it is so relaxing, I just took this video, everything is just getting so big and I love to watch the anemone move and it is cool to watch it eat. Grabbing food with those long tentacles and putting the food in it's mouth. Yes it has a mouth...

You will get a laugh out of this, when we first got this anemone, one day it all shrunk up really tiny. The tentacles were only about an inch long and really dark purple. I called the pet store to see If I was killing it!!! It looked terrible. She just laughed and told us it was Pooping. We just about lost it laughing. In a few hours it was back to normal. We get tickled every time it happens!!! I hope you have enjoyed all my creatures, big and small...

Fall in West Virginia....

This was the view from my front porch tonight... I really don't like Fall because I know Winter is so close behind. BUT the trees are beautiful. The sun was hitting them just right tonight and made them look like they were on fire. Hope everyone has a great week!!!
